Hi I am Libby and I want to write about my experience getting my family healthy and fit.  I blogged in the past, about 3 years ago, basically on the same topic.  This goal for my family is not a new one, we struggle with weight issues and making healthy food choices. They say success is built on failure, well I have failed more times than I care to remember, I need a win.  My family NEEDS a win.   It all starts with me-I do the grocery shopping, I cook the food, decide if they pack or buy, are we eating out or staying in?  It all starts with ME.

So what to do?  I will not lie I am feeling overwhelmed and like I am looking up Mt Everest at the moment, doomed for failure.  I know that getting healthy is not a me thing, it is a we thing. There is strength in numbers and changing our lifestyle as a family gives us a better chance to succeed.

I told my husband we are too smart to let this over power us, we need a strategy.  I did tons of research, read books about moms and families just like ours, and gathered some tools to at least get us started.  I guess the rest will have to be one day at a time.

What have we done so far?  Well the kids joined a cross fit class 2x a week and we use a food journaling app made for kids called Kurbo.  It is based on the traffic light system.  The app is very simple, there is no calorie counting only classifying how to eat certain foods in moderation and portion sizes.  It is also a game based system so they earn points and badges, they love it and it gives them awareness.  Oh and did I mention it is totally free!  In the book, "Who is the New Kid?" Heidi Bond talks about how she made exercise her number one priority.  They did nothing else during their exercise time.  In the winter time it is going to be tough to get outdoors so I called every fitness center to see what age you could actually work out and the only place that allowed 10 year olds in the fitness center was the Jewish Community Center in York, PA, so we joined! Their facility is awesome! I scheduled our work out time from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  The trick now is getting there.  If you know me, my biggest weakness is consistency.  This is probably the reason I fail at almost anything I try.  Pray for me!

Finally, it took me months to figure all of this out! I am just now putting my plan into action and it will take months to see any results.  I am willing to remain patient, hope that this will bring my family closer, like brothers in combat.  God has big plans for us!
